The second property is an old farm that sleeps 10 in single beds and is based about 7km from Bourg d’Oisans. The road to Bourg d’Oisans is flat and the house is perfect for groups of people and is obviously near Alpe d’Huez and the Col du Glandon/ Col de la Croix de Fer. Apartment 1 has absolutely stunning views across the Gorge de la Sarrene. Approximately a 20 minute drive to the ski resort of Alpe d’Huez or 10 minutes down to the valley town of Bourg d’Oisans the location is great for summer cyclists and winter skiers, or come in April and try both! The apartment is compact but is light and airy and comprises, one bedroom with double bed, a bathroom with bath and overshower, and an open plan living/dining area with kitchenette. The living area has a sofa bed suitable for one or two people and television, dining table and chairs. Our summer self catered accommodation has already started to fill up with cyclists keen to climb Alpe d’Huez and the other major Tour de France cols in the area.

For those that do not know the town, Bourg d’Oisans is a great location for your summer holiday with loads of great activities such as white water rafting, open air swimming pool, hiking, climbing, mountain biking and more. The town boasts a regional market, shops, restaurants, bars, cafes and street entertainment during the evenings.

Week long stays start from just £400 GBP per property and we have a selection of properties from 1 to 4 bedrooms.

For all our guests staying in one of our properties we are offering a 10% discount on all cycle hire.

If YOU would like we will supply the Christmas tree and fairy lights, a selection of goodies including a bottle of fizz and a list of suggestions of activities for you to enjoy in the area. 

With Ryanair and Easyjet both flying into Grenoble from the 19^th December getting here couldn’t be easier too.

We were pretty impressed!  The buses are clean and on time and have plenty of space for your boards and skis, and the drivers are friendly and helpful.

The best way to use the service is to buy your tickets three days in advance, that way you can buy a return for the times you want to travel and get a great price, a 10 trip card costs about 13 euros. 

If you’re not that organised you can still buy single trip tickets on the day at a cost of 1.90 each way but places are limited so you may not get the time you want to travel. 

The bus stops at the bus depot in Alpe d’Huez so you can pop off and buy your return on the way up, and then drops you off right on the pistes at Les Bergers.

The extreme weather this week throughout Europe has meant we’ve had another three full days of snow and with glorious sunshine today we’re heading back up the mountain for some more!

Alpe d'Huez

In Christmases past families would have eaten a light meal on Christmas Eve before going to midnight mass after which they would have eaten a hot meal together and opened Christmas gifts.  More usually now the Christmas Eve mass is earlier in the evening, followed by a family meal.

The traditional Christmas Day meal lasts several hours and is good opportunity for families to meet together and enjoy each others company.  The meal itself traditionally starts with foie gras with toast, smoked salmon, oysters and escargots and is followed with a main course of poultry stuffed with chestnuts and served with french beans and dauphine potatoes.  A course of cheese and salad follows before dessert of Christmas log made with chocolate or chestnut mousse.

The path is easy to walk with a gentle incline at the start and steeper paths and climbs up into the gorge later on.  The path follows the river and there were parts of the river where the streams running to it were safe to play and build dams across.  As you climb the path crosses the river over three great bridges and waterfalls which really captured the kids imagination.   

We spent most of the morning walking out and back and playing in the river.  The kids loved it.  The start of the walk was a few minutes drive from our accommodation in Bourg d’Oisans.

A minutes walk from the house and we found the French market stalls that lined the streets of Bourg d’Oisans today, offering local treats and farm produce to the visitors.  There were also DIY, motor and agriculture exhibitors showing off their goods.

The sheep dog’s entertained us with displays of herding and agility, and there were go-kart rides, bouncy castles and fairground rides for the children. 

A great morning out.

We took a day trip to Briancon from Bourg d’Oisans yesterday.  The hour and a bit drive took us up the mountains through Freney d’Oisans, and La Grave to the Col de Lautaret all with stunning views.   

Briancon was easy to navigate and had loads of easy parking.  It is split in to two parts and we spent most of our day walking along the narrow streets of the old town and hanging out in the bars, eating ice creams and browsing the great little shops.  We also visited an art gallary exhibition that had free entry.   

The old town is built inside the walls of an old fort/castle and you can take a tour of it quite cheaply.  There are also gardens to explore a parks for the children to play in. 

It was a great day out and well worth the trip.

In France Christmas is traditionally time for the family and New Year is time to party with friends, so come and join in the fun.

Aside from the village itself you will find the cable car station from where you can take the telecabin a spectacular 10 minute ride up to the resort of Les 2 Alpes.

For the more active, you can walk up to Les 2 Alpes, a two hour trek, or take the telecabin up with your mountain bike and come down the amazing downhill run back to the cable car station.

Well, to be fair it wasn’t that bad but Friday last week it rained pretty hard most of the day and throughout the night and we felt a definite drop in temperature. 

Come Saturday morning the clouds had gone and the sun was shining again but there was a covering of snow across the mountains and Alpe d’Huez and the Pic Blanc looked beautiful from the bedroom window. 

I think actually they were impressed.
